Mike played amazingly.  And I got through a whole two songs without screwing them up!

Corey at the barber

Tonight in Kensington Market

I may or may not be pooping my pants....

Tonight is the night.  First time singing in front of an actual crowd (without about a giant karaoke screen in front of me prompting each and every lyric).

We had a few practice sessions which included Mike's sister (who is singing backup on a few of Mike's own songs) and a great guitar player, Liraz.

Mike is fantastic, so come out to see him.  I'd honestly be "ok" if during my 2 songs you had to go out for a smoke or something.

Seriously.

Finding my voice

My good bud Mike recently moved home after spending some years in the west.
Glad to have him back.  He traveled across Canada playing music in venues along the way back and ended the tour back here in good old Ontari-ario.

Did I mention this was all in a '94 Lumina?   The Lumina served as a means to get to locations like the Yukon and Tofino and also provided him a temporary home.

Seeing Mike up on stage playing is amazing.  Always a huge "music guy" it just seems like the right place for him to be right now.

It also reminded me how much I used to love making music.

Now when I say "making music" I am not referring to those times in the nineties where I was writing amazing pieces of music and lyrics (because that never happened).  I just mean singing, really.  That's right.  Singing other people's songs.

Mike on the other hand can write like a ..... like a really great songwriter.

Mike stopped by yesterday and brought his guitar.  And we sang together.  And you know what? We sounded pretty darn good.

The first song below is what we hope to "master" by November 14th (at very least) to perform live.

Oh yeah, and I'm not nervous AT ALL.

Mike introduced me to this next beauty.  So lovely. This is the type of song I would not be able to fathom listening to in the morning (most depressing time of day for yours truly).  Walking to work BAWLING? Not a good start, me thinks.

But after 5pm- wow.

Been on this next tune pretty hardcore for a couple years now.
Again, no morning tune-ins permissible.

Yay I finally wrote a bloargggggg

Inspired, I guess?

TGIF.......MM

Thank God I Found My Mug

TRUE STORY:

My work mug has been missing for over a week.  I bid adieu to it as I was leaving work for the day, and decided to put it through one of our communal dishwashers in the kitchen.  I knew it was risky.  This isn't the first time she's gone missing.
The last time was over a year ago, and we were apart for nearly 2 months. I scoured the entire office, staying late just so that I could sneak around every empty desk and hope to stumble on my beloved (ok I'm going too far...).
Anyways- that time she emerged from our VP's office, trapped in his man hands.  He was drinking tea, and I made fun of him.

This time was much more spectacular.  I was in the kitchen and exchanged this lil convo with our in-house cleaning lady:

CL:    Excuse me, can I ask you a question?

Me:   Absolutely (*I'm super nice)

CL:   (*opens up very top cupboard that no one uses)

          Is this your mug?

Me:   YES! I've been looking all over for it!

CL:   I knew it belong to you.  I hide it here after I clean.  For you.

Can you say FAITH IN HUMANITY (or at the very least, in custodial staff) RESTORED??!!!

it's been one week and 3 days

Since our sweet fur baby left this world...

My heart aches thinking about how ill he was for the last leg of his life, but it smiles when i think of the many joys we brought eachother. He was a huge part of our lil family.   He truely was the Best. Cat. Ever.

Miss you, buddy.

Poly vs. Alcohol

So I have had the ol' nose ring in now for almost 6 weeks.

Seemingly preparing for an ARM piercing??

I woke up with a REAL NASTY bump on it yesterday.
Like... real narsty.

So I went out and bought me some good ol' Polysporin.

C-dawg- on the other hand- suggested the fix would be some rubbing alcohol.

So I get hoime from work and put the alcohol on it.
Later that night before bed I slathered on some poly.

I wake up today- GOOD AS NEW.
SO. The question remains- who won this battle?

Was it the ol reliable Poly?
Or the dependable-in-so-many-ways Alcohol?

Sunday Brunch

C and I were welcomed into the home of Jenny and Christian for brunch on Sunday, alongside The Halpins :)

The Men:
 The Ladies:
Note that is not 2 identical dogs.
Lily is a camera hog and had to be represented in both shots.

The Dog:
She has a funny way of lying down:

And enjoys being picked up from time to time.

C tried to perform the "Oh what a feeling when the dog is on the ceiling"- but Lily proved to be a tad more hesitant than our Jackson.

The Food:

was incredible.

Frittata, poached eggs with mushroom sauce, homemade bread, fruit salad (by ME!)

not pictured here are the WAFFLES, QUICHE, and homemade jam, etc.

Check out my foots (on the left).  Best sister ever picked those up for me!

TTC FAIL

Picture this:
Bathurst station, 8:35 am

A SEA OF PEOPLE wait (patiently?) for a streetcar to take them downtown.

The line-up there this AM was too much for the Zerbinator to handle.  I was walking toward the mass crowd and suddenly felt my body continuing it's journey down Bathurst on my own two feets.

Needless to say, I made the right decision.

The fist Southbound car to pass me was at Queen Strett, a mere few minutes from my destination.

At that exact moment the song "Waiting For The Bus" by the Violent Femmes came on my ipod.
Followed immediately by "Rockin Stroll" by the Lemonheads.

Febreeze stinks (gear grind #142)

Exhibit A:

FEBREEZE FREE:

Ok so if it doesn't smell like ANYTHING you are basically just spraying chemicals into your home?
(PS I highly doubt that Febreeze has the capability to create a product with absolutely no smell)

=

Exhibit B:

FEBREEZE "for your bedroom":

If your bedroom stinks SO MUCH that you need to resort to spraying this crap all over it SO THAT YOU CAN FALL ASLEEP... you got problems.

(PS Are they adding Seratonin to this shit?)

Exhibit C:

FEBREEZE "....that smells like a Cinnabon stand":

Anyone that has ever been to the mall with me (lucky bastards) KNOWS that when we pass the Cinnabon stand, I need to hold my breath.  A scarf comes in handy for times like these as well to save my nostrils from THAT SMELL.  I don't like it.
If you buy the below product and use it in your home- Say "Bye Bye" to the Zerbinator coming to visit you anytime soon!

Cinnabon made me think of this.

Kin: the series

Gotta check this out, people!

Some very lovely friends of mine are working on their very own PILOT for a chilling teevee show.
I even got to be on location for a couple of the shoots.

You can learn more and watch the trailer here:

A few familiar faces AND my favorite local watering hole are featured!

Like 'em on facebook and stuff.
Let's make this a reality! (not the subject of the show, but the show itself, of course).

my head is SO cold

So looks like the BARTS brand is only available in the UK.  Little Burgundy USED TO carry them but they don't now so what help is that to MEEEEE?

I bought this POS "Thinsulate" one to tide me over.

"Thin" is right!

I miss it. I really do.
